Hello DGS Middle School!
The weeks between Thanksgiving and winter break flew by in a whirlwind of activity. We field tripped to the library, read a story by Jack London, tried out hexagonal discussions, designed restaurant menus for our early man study, cooked food over an open fire, took a foraging walk, researched and worked on our long-term Passion Projects, booked a rental car for our Savannah trip, exchanged gifts, and watched our fellow classmate, India, perform on stage. Whew!
There was more, but suffice it to say, we were busy!
In the coming weeks, we will be taking time for reflection before jumping into our second semester. It’s been a fantastic first half of our year together, and I look forward to reviewing all we have accomplished and where we grow from here.
Working on creek excavation. All good!
Discussions by linking seemingly unrelated hexagons together... Excellent insight from these conversations!
Classic.
And there was fire....
Thank you, India, for the invite to your show! You were fabulous!
This final picture shows Mr. Matt's incredible generosity to his students each year. Did you realize every year he buys a gazillion hardback copies of stories students will actually read, and he gives them away to your children? It's his gift to them on the last day before winter break every year. I'm blown away by his kindness and grateful I had a front row seat to watch the selection process. Thank you, Mr. Matt! (I even snagged one for our read alouds!)
