A Middle School Experience Like No Other
Why Middle Schoolers Thrive at Davidson Green School
High School Preparedness

With a focus on rigorous academics, your student will gain the knowledge and discipline needed to excel in high school and beyond
Hands-On Learning

We replace lectures with action. Your student will build, experiment, and create, working on projects that connect the classroom to the real world.
Small Classes, Big Attention

No one gets lost in the crowd here. Small classes mean every student's voice matters. They’ll have teachers who know them, cheer them on, and help them discover what they’re passionate about.

Epic Experiences
Learning happens everywhere. Our students explore, camp, and bond with classmates as they step out of the classroom for field trips that make learning unforgettable.

Future-Ready Skills
Your middle schooler will learn life skills like leadership, creativity, and problem-solving, empowering them to thrive in any path they choose!

A Supportive Community
Adolescence is tough, but our inclusive community makes it easier. We foster a culture where students feel safe to take risks, be themselves, and grow

Transitioning from Homeschool?
You Belong Here.
Shifting into a classroom setting is a big step! We make that transition exciting by pairing the independent exploration your child is used to with a highly supportive peer group. Your student will feel completely at home as they tackle academic challenges and build the confidence they need for high school.
Middle School That’s Anything but Ordinary
Every day at DGS is designed to help students to explore and engage with the world around them. Each year builds on the last, helping students evolve personally and academically. By 8th grade, they’re confident, capable, and ready to succeed in high school. Here’s how we make the middle school years count:

Multi-Age Classrooms: Real-World Collaboration
Your student will work with peers of different ages and skill levels—exactly as they will in the professional world.
Our multi-age setup ensures every student is met where they are, whether they are building foundational skills or working ahead of their grade level. This natural environment fosters deep growth and confidence. Here, 6th graders find inspiration in the projects of their peers, while 8th graders step into vital leadership roles as role models for the entire school.

Sustainability in Action: Saving the World, Hands-On
We skip the textbook and head straight into action. Guided by the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, your student will tackle actual global challenges.
Whether designing eco-friendly campus upgrades or analyzing local ecosystems, they learn quickly that their ideas hold real power.
Giving them a voice now builds the confident environmental leaders of tomorrow.

Outdoor Adventures & Field Trips: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Your child will step outside their everyday routine to hike trails, raft rapids, or even sleep under the stars!
Our regular field trips and overnight adventures teach lifelong lessons in teamwork and outdoor survival.
Exploring nature together builds deep friendships while showing your student exactly what they are capable of achieving.

Extended Learning Field Trips (ELFT): Putting Students in the Driver's Seat
Forget standard pre-planned field trips. We hand your middle schooler the budget and the map!
Through campus fundraisers like bake sales and pizza lunches, they earn their own travel money.
Then, they plan the entire itinerary themselves. Mapping out routes or budgeting meals for an epic adventure to Raleigh, NC (6th grade), Washington D.C (7th grade) and New York City (8th grade). This gives your child serious financial savvy while having the time of their life.

Engineering & Problem Solving: The Inventor’s Workshop
Step inside our version of an engineering lab. Your student will roll up their sleeves and design solutions to challenges and problems with projects like Egg Drops, City Design, and Solar Ovens.
Rather than building standard baking-soda volcanoes, they will tackle rigorous science challenges.
They will test their wild ideas at our annual Problem Solved Expo and take their top designs to the UNC State Science Fair.
It is high-energy science that gets them thinking like true innovators.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Space to Grow (and Play!)
Middle school comes with big emotions, so we make sure your child has the tools to navigate them.
Through dedicated weekly guidance, your student will build personal resilience and practice healthy emotional regulation.
We also intentionally carve out unstructured outdoor time so they can simply enjoy being kids. There is no rush to grow up here.
We provide a highly supportive space for them to figure out who they are before high school begins.
