This month, middle schoolers had the quintessential fall mountain adventure - long-range views from the Appalachian Trail, a 17-mile bike ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail, communing with the wild ponies in Grayson-highlands State Park, setting up tents and camping, and preparing camp food for the community.
Not only was this a time of adventure, but it was a time of connection and community building. This group of young people encouraged each other when challenged and supported each other as they lived in community for three days.
These overnight adventure trips build resilience, inner strength, and how to live in community - three qualities acquired through experience and essential for navigating these times.
