We welcomed chicks to DGS!

During the month of October, we opened the map of North America, studied pumpkins, and mammals. We explored the countries of Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America through our suitcase of items, animal matching, and book reading. We kicked off our study of flags with the countries of North America. Matching, naming, and marching with the flags has been a treat. We learned the characteristics of mammals. They have hair, are warm-blooded, have a backbone, give live birth, feed their babies milk, breathe air, and care for their babies. We used a stethoscope to hear our heartbeat and worked with a skeleton puzzle to learn the names of many of our bones.

Our poem this month was the 5 Little Pumpkins. We also worked on our second Chicken and Rice Poem for October: In October, I'll be host for witches, goblins, and a ghost. I will serve them Chicken soup on toast. Whoopy once, whoopy twice, Whoopy chicken soup with rice.

We celebrated Diwali by making Rangoli, lighting Diyas, and singing our Diwali song. We learned that Diwali is a celebration of Light over Darkness. It can be called a Festival of Lights.
