We are Thankful

ree

We are thankful for so many things. We are lucky to be here together at DGS.

During November, we study leaves, the United States of America, mammals, Native Americans, and the history of Thanksgiving. We identify leaves: Maple, Tulip Poplar, Ginkgo, Sassafras, and Oak. We learned how to say Good Morning in Cherokee: Osda Sanalei ( O sda sa na le e). We also drew Native American symbols.

While studying the United States of America, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to the Star-Spangled Banner. We discussed the White House, the Statue of Liberty, and lots of famous US landmarks. Our suitcase this month is filled with items from the United States.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, we have made turkey hands, pin-punch turkeys, and glued fabric-covered pumpkins. Most importantly, we discussed what we are thankful for. At the first Thanksgiving, the people celebrated their harvest. We celebrate a different type of harvest in our community: we celebrate being together and the joy we share as a classroom family!
