Hello Readers,
Just dropping in to share a wonderful event our two of our eighth graders attended in early March. As part of the World Affairs Council of Charlotte's educational initiative, regional schools may participate in their luncheon series, and DGS had the privilege of hearing Kurk Wilks, President and Chief Executive Officer of MANN+HUMMEL. His talk left all of us with much for reflection. Here are a few take aways from Lily and Olivia, who attended the luncheon.
Lily: I enjoyed getting to eat a delicious meal. Afterwards, Mr. Wilks came over to talk to us about how you should use social media to your advantage, not to your disadvantage. If I had to take one lesson away from Mr. Wilks, it is that even if you grow up not having much, it doesn't mean you can't do great things.
Olivia: I really enjoyed the experience I got out of The World Affairs Council. I am grateful to have an experience with professional speakers for future events. I enjoyed hearing about how to be responsible with AI. Kirk Wilks had said that you should use it as a tool, not an addiction. It is an important difference that isn't expressed often.
Thank you to World Affairs Council for once again providing quality educational opportunities with real world context for our students. What a treat we had!
Peace,
Miss Patricia
