Upper Elementary - Morning Meeting

As we start our second full week of school, the students are already taking ownership of their environment. Our returning students have been patient mentors, and our new friends have joined in with enthusiasm, together creating a healthy sense of community.

Today the Student Board Committee facilitated our first student-led Morning Meeting of the year. Coming together in circle to start our day truly sets the tone for the rest of the day.

The process started last week when they planned who would be responsible for the various roles. Each meeting starts by sharing the date, daily precept, weather and daily agenda. Next, we listen to the daily KidNuz podcast. KidNuz | Daily News Podcast for Kids One member of the committee facilitates a discussion following the podcast, inviting the group for: Responses/Reactions? Connecting Ideas? Questions/Curiosities? Following news, a member of our Peace Committee shares a daily affirmation and leads us in a Mindfulness practice. Today was Candle Breath. At the end, they pass the torch to the Teacher Corner.

It was wonderful to see them collaborate and support each other throughout the process, practicing our Montessori principles of grace and courtesy through active listening, taking turns in leadership roles and respectful discussion.
