What's for lunch?

In NY City Schools, we know what is NOT for lunch... they have banned processed meats from school lunches.

“We cannot continue feeding our children substances that are scientifically proven to increase their chances of cancer later in life,” said Borough President Adams.

Did you know that processed meats, including deli meats, hotdogs, bacon, sausages, etc., are on the same "carcinogenic to humans" list as tobacco and asbestos? It's easy not to hand our children a cigarette - it's a lot harder to say no to processed meats. Let's face it - processed meats are easy, cheap, and kids like them. Which makes this all that more impressive.

And banning processed meats is not only best for our children, it is also best for the environment too. Reducing the amount of meat we consume (NYC Schools also started Meatless Mondays) reduces greenhouse gases which is a huge step in addressing climate change. All things we strongly agree with!

Congratulations to NYC!!
