Discovery Starts Early: Introducing Montessori Mornings at DGS

At Davidson Green School, we believe that education is a natural process that begins long before a child ever puts pencil to paper, or calculates a sum. It starts with the tiny hands that reach out to touch a textured fabric, the curious eyes that track a butterfly in the woods, and the blossoming confidence of a child realizing, "I can do it myself."
This summer, we are thrilled to open our doors to our youngest neighbors and their families for our new program: Montessori Mornings. This program is designed to introduce families to the Montessori method and to see it in action.
The Magic of the Prepared Environment
For a child between the ages of 1 ½ and 3, the world is a laboratory. In our Primary classroom (which hosts our 3yo’s through Kindergarten during the school year), we cultivate what Maria Montessori called the "Prepared Environment." Every shelf, tool, and activity is intentionally designed to meet the developmental needs of the child.
Unlike a traditional playroom, a Montessori environment is orderly, beautiful, and purposeful. It allows children to engage in "Practical Life" activities—tasks that refine their fine motor skills and foster independence—at their own pace. When a child is given a space that fits their size and respects their rhythm, we see a remarkable sense of peace and concentration emerge.
Why Choose Montessori for the Early Years?
Early childhood is a period of "The Absorbent Mind." During these formative years, children possess an incredible capacity to soak up language, social cues, and sensory input from their surroundings. By choosing a Montessori approach, parents provide their children with a foundation of self-discipline, empathy, and a lifelong love of discovery.
