We Belong: Opening Ceremony

The new school year at Davidson Green School began with a joyful reminder that echoed through the opening circle: we belong. After a summer of quiet, the campus came alive again with laughter, footsteps, and song. The trees, the squirrels, even the bushes seemed to celebrate the children’s return, reminding us that we are part of this landscape, and it is part of us. With voices raised together, we welcomed the year by affirming our place in the wider circle of nature and community.
Belonging was celebrated not only in connection to the Earth but also to one another. Teachers, students, and friends new and old stepped forward with playful hops and steps, each greeted with the same joyful message: “You belong here.” We reflected together that belonging means feeling safe, supported, and seen for who we truly are. Like the colorful strands of a bracelet woven into something strong and beautiful, each of us is unique, yet together we create a vibrant whole. As we begin this year, we carry the promise that wherever our learning circles form—under trees, around the fire, or in our classrooms—we will return to this truth: I belong, you belong, we belong.
PS. Ask your student about their bracelet!
