Lower Elementary recently went on their overnight adventure trip to Lake Logan!
This second trip of the year is always so incredible. Many of the 2nd and 3rd graders look forward to returning to this magical space, while the 1st graders are eager to experience it for the first time.
The trip started off with a stop in Montreat at an amazing creekside playground. We had a picnic lunch together, and then students got to run around and explore everything the playground had to offer!
Once we arrived at Lake Logan, we headed straight to the waterfront where students had the opportunity to polar plunge, kayak and canoe, paddleboard, watercolor, and explore the island!
After warming up from the waterfront activities, we gathered for a community dinner. Following dinner, we ventured out on a night walk where we listened for nighttime sounds and learned about how nocturnal animals navigate in the dark.
We were even lucky enough during our nighttime adventure to spot one of the four bald eagles that live on the property!
Our second day was full of breathtaking views as we hiked up Black Balsam Knob. We had a beautifully clear day and were able to see 360-degree views from the top. Along the way, we explored the different vegetation and rock layers found at varying elevations.
We made our way back down the mountain and went on another short hike to a waterfall, where students splashed and played for a while. Some of the adults even did a polar plunge in the waterfall! As you can imagine, after two big hikes the students needed a snack and some rest time, but not much, lol.
We ended the night with field games and conversations about how to continue living in community well, even when we are tired. The students truly did an amazing job with this throughout the entire trip!
Our last day was spent in the river searching for different macroinvertebrates and practicing how to identify them. We ended our time together with some quiet moments by the river, reflecting on memories and experiences we wanted to take home with us.
It is always so sweet to hear the students share their favorite moments from the trip and what they are most excited to tell their families about when they get home!
Please enjoy some of the trip photos above. I hope you can see just how much fun they had on their adventure!
